Thursday Evening 12/15 at The Audio Salon, Santa Monica—Record Collecting Made Difficult With Michael Fremer

60 years of record collecting experience concentrated into a single evening

This Thursday, December 15th from 4PM until 8:30PM at a special event hosted by Maier Shadi at The Audio Salon at The Bergamot Station, 2525 Michigan Avenue (Gallery F1) Santa Monica, California 90404, I will be be talking about my 60 years of record collecting and offering tips on what to look for and what to avoid when buying records, both new and used. Especially used.

It will be more of a conceptual discussion rather than a list of what you should buy and own, after all we all have different musical tastes. The photo shows but one of the multiple systems we will be using Thursday evening.

I'm bringing a selection of various pressings of the same record to demonstrate sonic differences among the pressings. I'll take questions and if I can, answer them and hopefully by the end of the evening you will have gotten some useful information to help you make informed record buying decisions, whether in a store or on-line. One of the best parts of events like this is that I get to learn useful information from attendees, so I look forward to that.

Unfortunately, there are many online record sellers making "first pressing" claims about records that are not "first pressings", mostly because they don't really understand what that means! It's not about the label color!

Also at the event, Mr. Shadi will introduce his new lacquer box set manufactured for him by Florian "Doc" Caps' Supersense in Vienna

I hope to see you Thursday evening at The Audio Salon! Please RSVP: maier@theaudiosalon.com
