A Supersense Nina Simone Picture Disc/Lacquer

lacquer side A is screenprint art, side B "I Put a Spell on You" at 45rpm

Supersense, Vienna-based purveyors of custom cut lacquer versions of iconic LPs recently announced a new reissue program featuring a "picture disc" on lacquer side one and a cut-from-tape track on side two, in this case Nina Simone's version of "I Put a Spell on You".

According to the website:

"This edition is super strictly limited to only 99 pieces and comes in a handmade, all analog printed Slim Case, especially developed for our picture disc editions.

One side of the 12" Japanese lacquer disc celebrates a Portrait of Mrs. Simone (after an original photo by Robert Abbott Sengstacke/Getty Images), hand-applied by Giulio Paolini using a special screen print technique.

Onto the other side we cut Nina's legendary version of "I PUT A SPELL ON YOU" in 45 rpm for an ultimately supreme listening experience.

AVAILABLE IN 2 VARIANTS: INTRODUCING THE MASTERCUT PICTURE EDITION FRAME

Even if we really like our new edition package, letterpress with some background information as well as a QR code linking you with a short video regarding the production process,...

WE REALLY LOVE the combination of our PICTURE DISC and the MASTERCUT MAGNETIC METAL FRAME, which we produced with our friends from Halbe Rahmen, especially for this edition.

The idea is that you do not have to hide your beautiful picture disc in its packaging but can proudly hang it on your wall, perfectly protected against dust, and even humidity and UV light!

Whenever you want to listen to your record, you can easily pop open the frame and take out the disc.

Since the invention of gold and platinum records for the stars, music records have never been held in such high regard as pieces of visual art.

Be among the first collectors to spoil your senses with the crisp sound, the stunning looks and the elegant handling of this truly tri-sensual piece of art and craftsmanship.

If you have a compulsion to comment on the value of things in this hobby you will be a very busy boy. Most of my friends think I'm crazy to pay even $30 for a record. I love Nina Simone and I am an avid collector of picture discs. I ordered 1 with a frame. BTW that brings it to about $475 with shipping. Thrilled to get it.

I have an old Edison Diamond disc. It’s a thick, flat record Edison made along with cylinders. They cost $1.50 in 1919. About $34 today!!!!

To each his own. If you look at and it makes you happy, that's cool. To me, that price seems, uh, excessive.

I'm with Bruce--it is best to avoid thinking about price in this hobby. But more to the point on this case, $475 for something beautiful to hang on the wall is a modest price. That you can play the disc is a huge added bonus. "Unfortunately", my listening room is OUR living room, and I am not authorized to hang pictures.

I do wonder how the sound compares to premium vinyl. If it is better, then the whole thing is really cool. If not, well...

Yes, some of us can justify the expense more easily than others. Personally, I'd rather have a nice photo of Ms. Simone for a fraction of the price without a silver "thing" right next to her face, and an actual LP to play. But that's just me. Hey, they might appreciate some day!

irrelevant like all stuff they do gimmicky hobbyists selling their dust-collectors at irresponsible price with irrelevant limitation. irrelevance serves others who's heart goes into throwing their irrelevant stacks of cash at it. so irrelevance can be reverted as it's proven

do you have to play that reversion game? up to you. this is a free choice.

hahaha, nothing bad about it. it's an irrelevant product using a very relevant artist's content. and put it the the reverse it means it's pure niche of relevance for the ones taking that reverted angle at their own choice, all fine. LOL.
